Professor Irwin King Kuo-chin is currently a Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, and the Director of the eLearning Innovation and Technology (ELITE) Centre at CUHK. He holds a B.Sc. degree in Engineering and Applied Science from the California Institute of Technology, an M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles. During a sabbatical, he worked at AT&T Labs Research on Big Data and also taught courses as a Visiting Professor at the University of California, Berkeley.
Professor King has dedicated his research to machine learning, social computing, web intelligence, data mining and multimedia information processing. His publications have been widely disseminated at top conferences and journals, and he serves as an editorial board member for numerous international publishers. He has received numerous Test of Time Awards at prominent conferences and several lifetime awards from renowned technical societies. He is a Fellow of the AAAI, ACM, IEEE, HKIE and INNS.
In addition to his research work, Professor King has been an advocate for eLearning powered by AI technology. He holds six international patents, including the VeriGuide System, a type of plagiarism detection software that identifies similar sentences and analyses the readability of text-based documents in both English and Chinese, promoting academic integrity and honesty. With funding support from the University Grants Committee (UGC), he launched the eLearning platform KEEP (Knowledge & Education Exchange Platform), developed and initiated by CUHK with partner institutions, as a project investigator. KEEP supports the development of innovative teaching and learning strategies using cutting-edge technology.

Professor Xiong Hui holds esteemed positions at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) as a Chair Professor and the Associate Vice President for Knowledge Transfer. Before joining HKUST(GZ), he was a Distinguished Professor at Rutgers University and held the position of Chief Scientist (Smart City) and Deputy Dean at Baidu Research Institute (T11), overseeing five research labs. Prof. Xiong has received numerous honors and awards, including being elected as Fellow of Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI), Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), Fellow of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), Distinguished Scientist of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), and Fellow of the Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence (CAAI) and China Computer Federation (CCF).
Prof. Xiong currently serves as the ACM SIGKDD Secretary, the Co-Editor-in-Chief of Encyclopedia of GIS, the Deputy Director of the CCF Expert Committee on Big Data, and the Editor-in-Chief of Nature npj | Artificial Intelligence. He is the principal investigator of the National Key R&D Program of China and the National Natural Science Foundation of China. He has received prestigious awards such as the ACM SIGKDD Service Award and the AAAI Best Paper Award. He is also recognized for his talent cultivation, as many of his PhD students have become tenure-track professors worldwide.
